HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

Michele and her mom Jackie
In 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother in Grafton, West Virginia, she sought to honor her mother who had been a peace activist caring for wounded soldiers on both sides of the American Civil War. She created Mother's Day Work Clubs to address public health issues. She worked to set aside a day to honor all mothers, because she believed that they were "the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world". Woodrow Wilson made Mother's Day official in 1914.

III. HOME
Here is a thing my heart wishes the world had more of:
I heard it in the air of one night when I listened
To a mother singing softly to a child restless and angry in the darkness.
